Skills Zone 1: Flen Health

Dressing for success: how to dress lower limbs to optimise wound healing

This session covered the fundamentals of infection versus inflammation and its significance in combatting antimicrobial resistance (AMR). We also held a practical demonstration showing how to apply an easy-to-use enzyme alginogel in the dressing of at-risk, complex areas, such as large leg ulcers and the spaces between toes.

Speakers: Sam Smith, clinical nurse advisor; Astrid Fremau, medical affairs manager, both at Flen Health

Skills Zone 2: MedicarePlus

Pressure vs moisture: a key to success

This interactive Skills Zone aimed to improve the understanding and recognition of pressure and moisture-associated skin damage. Together, we explored the presentation of these two conditions with the purpose of aiding assessment and improving patient outcomes.

Speakers: Wendy Cole, clinical nurse advisor, Medicareplus International; Cerys Stowe (PG Affiliate, BSc Hons), lead tissue viability clinical nurse specialist, Fundamentals of Care Team, Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; Alex Freitas, clinical nurse advisor, Medicareplus International

Patient empowerment: an approach to simplifying lower limb care

This session explored how enabling patients to participate actively in their treatment journey with shared-care models can enhance collaboration between patients and clinicians. It looked at the benefits of strong compression and compression solutions and their crucial role in improving lower limb health, while also alerting attendees to ‘monkey business’ scenarios which could compromise care quality.
